Low Cost Promotions Generate BIG Results Wonder why some companies get more publicity and word-of-mouth “buzz” than others? Most likely they are great promoters (or they work with Talk). Publicity can result from a variety of sources – hard news (of which there is a limited supply), human interest, controversy, trends or novelty. Novelty is the quality of being new, original or unusual. Successful promoters excel at novelty by creating original ideas that generate buzz. And the best ideas are often the simplest and least expensive to execute! Here are some examples:
The Pink Chick Parade
Have you noticed the 5’ tall pink chicks standing sentinel at The Forum Shops on Military Cutoff Road? It’s the first annual Pink Chick Parade to raise funds and awareness for the Pink Ribbon Project at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Swain & Associates, developer of The Forum Shops, hired Talk to develop a creative way to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month and voila! – the Pink Chick Parade was born. Participants buy a chick for $125, the cost for Pink Ribbon to conduct a mammogram. The parade generated significant donations and media coverage in print, radio and TV. We look forward to an even bigger parade in 2010.
Super Bowl Talkies
In 2008, Talk launched Super Bowl Talkies, an annual awards program to honor the best in Super Bowl advertising – the ones that generate the most “talk” around the water cooler. In 2009, we launched www.SuperBowlTalkies.com, featuring video, live chat, surveys and blog posts. The result? Widespread media coverage each year in print, TV and radio, and significant traffic online. This year will be even bigger and better. Stay tuned. If you think your company has no “news” to report to generate publicity, think again. And get creative. A promotion can be a successful and inexpensive way to generate significant buzz. |
